Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Fighters Table

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a wide array of personalities, and a gripping narrative showcasing celestial beings, demons, and sinister influences growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Revealing details for Episode 3 of this adventure are included.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The third episode finished on a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of heroes who will split off from the central cast to begin their separate journey, apart from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team consists of Teor (portrayed by Travis), Thimble (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

With 13 cast members, it was evident from the beginning that having everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

That’s why, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before dividing into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Explorers.

What Defines the Combat Party

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for participants who are drawn to a classically intense combat and conflict-driven story mode where peaceful solutions are scarce.

Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might look mismatched, but the events of episode 3 show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal first encounter with the enemy group.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose death started the narrative’s action—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, invading the hidden lair, attacking the rogue, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.

The antagonist then paid off his debts and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, north of the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each member has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, desires retribution.
  • Kattigan has experience in the region and warns that it is a hostile place.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • But, their position as important members in House Halovar could assist the team access areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character swore a eternal obligation to The savior for his deliverance and will now follow him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:

  • The rogue and The character are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and Wicander betrayed the powerful family and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the family.

This leaves them little choice but to travel to the northern region in pursuit of the traitor.

What’s Next?

According to episode three’s Cooldown, we discover that the Soldiers table won’t be around next week, leaving the other eight participants to round up the Explorers and Planners groups.

Audiences can expect finding out which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, released on the upcoming Thursday.
